When I served as Vice President Education for Coimbatore Toastmasters Club, our plans were clear and structured. We had a calendar full of in-person meetings, workshops, and events designed to build communication and leadership skills. Then Covid hit, and everything changed overnight. Physical meetings were no longer possible, and we faced a sudden halt.


This disruption forced us to rethink how we operated. Instead of waiting for the situation to improve, our club became one of the first to adopt online meetings. This shift was not just about moving to a video platform; it required reimagining how to engage members, maintain energy, and deliver value remotely.


This experience taught me to think outside the box and embrace change early. It showed that leadership strategies must be flexible and that disruption can be an opportunity to innovate. Starting a Deep Tech and GenAI Team at Work


The technological shift also inspired me to start a small team focused on bringing Deep Tech and Generative AI solutions to my workplace. This was uncharted territory for us, and it required a willingness to explore the unknown before competitors did.


Building this team involved more than technical skills. It demanded leadership skills such as trust-building, clear communication, and encouraging experimentation. I learned how to empower my team to take risks and learn from failures, which is essential for innovation.

Innovating Hiring Processes During a Hiring Spree


During a period of rapid growth, I was responsible for hiring around 11 talented engineers within a year for my team. This challenge required more than just filling positions; it demanded creating a hiring process that was efficient, fair, and scalable.


I was amongst the first few to embrace the use of HackerRank to assess candidates’ technical skills objectively. Beyond that, I developed new innovations in the hiring process at the organizational level, which improved candidate experience, fostered diversity due to a fair hiring process and reduced time-to-hire. These efforts were formally recognized by senior executives and HR leaders.
