I was part of a diverse committee that decided on the proceedings, procedures, processes and priorities in New Employee Orientation of 200+ young talents joining Aptiv. Sharing my observations, learnings and tips below.

Why to be a part of committees at work as a leader ?

Energetic Experience of Committee Participation
Energetic Experience of Committee Participation

Being part of the committee responsible for determining the induction process for over 200 new employees was an exceptionally energetic experience. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as we gathered to brainstorm ideas and share our visions for creating a welcoming environment for the freshers. The diverse backgrounds and perspectives of committee members contributed to a dynamic exchange of ideas, resulting in a collaborative spirit that made the process enjoyable and engaging.

The committee meetings were filled with insightful discussions that challenged our thinking and encouraged us to consider various aspects of the induction process. We analyzed best practices from other organizations, discussed potential challenges, and identified the key components that would make the induction effective. This exchange of ideas not only broadened our understanding of employee onboarding but also highlighted the importance of a structured approach in helping new hires acclimate to the company culture.

A Valuable Learning Experience
A Valuable Learning Experience

Participating in this committee was a significant learning experience for all involved. We learned about the intricacies of employee engagement and retention, the importance of clear communication, and the need for tailored training programs. Each member brought unique insights from their own experiences, which enriched our discussions and helped us create a comprehensive induction plan that addressed the needs of the new employees.

What were some of the new approaches that were attempted?

Technical Presentation Competition

The Technical Presentation Competition is designed to engage freshers in a comprehensive learning experience that enhances their presentation skills, technical knowledge, and teamwork. The competition is structured into several rounds to progressively evaluate participants' skills.

Pre-Session Materials

Before each sessions, participants receive pre-session materials to prepare: -

Resource Materials: Articles, videos, and tutorials related to the topics of interest.

Workshops: Interactive sessions led by experienced professionals to enhance skills in research, design, and presentation.

Coursers: Courses to go through before the session schedule

Post-Session Tests

After each round, participants take post-session tests to reinforce learning : -

Knowledge Assessments: Quizzes covering the topics presented.

Feedback Surveys: Participants provide feedback on the sessions, which helps organizers improve future iterations.

Reflection Papers: Participants write a brief reflection on what they learned and how they can apply it.

Diverse Topics for Induction

To ensure a broad learning experience, the orientation covers various topics, including:

1. Emerging Technologies: AI, machine learning, and connected vehicle technology

2. Software Development: Best practices, coding languages, and development frameworks. 3. Cybersecurity: Threats, prevention strategies, and ethical hacking.

4. Data Science: Data analysis, visualization techniques, and statistical methods.

5. Sustainability in Tech: Green computing, energy-efficient technologies, and sustainable practices in IT.

Overall, being part of this committee was not just about creating an induction program; it was about fostering a sense of community and belonging for the new employees. The energetic atmosphere, insightful discussions, and valuable learning experiences collectively contributed to a fulfilling journey that will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the organization and its newest members.
